RetroActive Scooter Club was created in 2006 by a group of people in Boise, Idaho with a passion for scooters. While the prime focus of our passion is riding and socializing, good friends, good food, good music, and good fun. repair and maintenance are also an interest of many of the members. Like most big cities, the local scooter scene in Boise was split. Boise doesn't have a large enough population to sustain a large hard body only scooter club so we formed a group that was inclusive. Our group allows any kind of scooter, regardless of body style. Hence the name RetroActive. Retro meaning old, Active meaning the modern scooter.We do welcome non-members to ride with us as our guests on rides that are posted here on the website that are not otherwise noted as "members only". If you wish to ride with us, please review our riding protocols.

Do you like to cruise around on a Scooter? If not have you considered the cost of Fuel for that SUV? Some people think that Scooters are not safe and whereas that is true to a point the reasoning behind it is that people are not looking for them while driving, but there is safety in numbers and the more scooters in your town, the safer they become.

To increase Scooter usage it might be wise to start a Scooter Club and get a little local publicity. First you will need to decide what level you wish your club to be at. To make a formal club is one option and it makes things more concrete and stable. First, you need to establish Bylaws and form a Legal Entity and perhaps you might also form preliminary committee. You will need to determine you Mission Statement along with your Goals and Objectives. Perhaps you desire to:

Conserve Fuel
Get People Out of their SUVs
Have Fun
Promote Safety
Raise Money for Charity
A Club for Get-Togethers and Dating
Maybe you might consider a Tax Strategy for Non-Profit status and you will need to create Release of Liability Forms and determine a low cost tentative Club Membership Fee Structure. There can be a lot of advantages setting up a club like this in your town. Think about capitalizing on Economies of Scale for instance you might;
Work Out Special Price for Fuel and Give PR to that Station
Recruit Scooter Certified Mechanics
Negotiate Special Rates
Develop Working Relationship with all Scooter Shops
Safety Instruction
Free Course from a Local Traffic School
Recruit Local Police Talent for Group Talks
Negotiate Rental Fees for Non-Scooter Owners
Work Out Price Breaks for Destination Locations
You might also plan fundraiser events and gatherings and donate the money to local worthy charities or maybe a scholarship too. Your club can meet at local Coffee Shops and discuss many issues. If you wish to promote your objectives why not elevate the Clubs Status with Good Standing Members and have them join various decision making groups in town?
Member to sit on Mayor's Round Table
Member on Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee
Member on Neighborhood Watch Board as a Mobile Group
Member on Parks and Recreation Board
Maybe you wish to have certain roads wider and better paving and thus you might assist Local Candidates who strongly believes in Traffic Safety for your city. To maintain you high status in the community you will need a few rules for Club Members and maybe you can write this up in a
Two Page Promise from each Member;

Obey all Traffic Laws
Drive Responsibly and Defensively
Be an Example of a Good Citizen
Maintain Safety Items on Scooter
Additionally, a scooter club can become the eyes and ears of the community and assist in curbing crime by reporting criminal activity by Cell Phone. Things such as; Hit and Runs, Theft or the occasional Drug Deal going down. It is vital that you only allow upstanding citizens to join you and you should make sure they are safe by having a Scooter Proficiency Check-out and allow the club to vote on New Members before joining, maybe a 85% approval vote.

A Senior Member can meet a new prospective member at a Coffee Shop and go riding with them to make sure they are safe and to make sure the new member is able to explain an understanding of Traffic Laws, as well as check to make sure they are maintaining Liability Insurance. They might even distribute AAA forms and maps to assist new members. Why not start a scooter club in your town today?
